Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants
Flower Structure.
Angiosperms are attached to the plant by a pedicel, the basal part of which is called the anther.

Parts of a Flower.
A flower has four main parts:
- Sepals
- Corolla
- Stamens
- Gynoecium

The sepals and corolla are called the accessory whorl, and the stamens and gynoecium are called the reproductive whorl.

A flower is a modified shoot.
Androecium:
The male reproductive organ in a flower is called the androecium.

Gynoecium:
The female reproductive organ in a flower is called the gynoecium.

Types of Flowers.
Flowers are of two types based on gender.
- Bisexual flowers – Flowers that have both stamens and pistils.
Examples: Hibiscus, mustard, and rose.
- Unisexual flowers – Flowers that have only one sex.
Two types:
- Masculine – containing only stamens.
- Feminine – containing only pistils.
Examples: corn, papaya.
Flower cultivation is called floriculture.
